QK is elated to welcome Dr. Jennell Appel, DVM, CCRT - a distinguished expert in sports medicine, athletic conditioning, and injury prevention specialist, for an exclusive intimate learning experience. 

During this distinctive two-day event, 8 participating dogs and their handlers will gain the following benefits as Dr. Jennell imparts her expertise and knowledge to the attending audience on various topics such as:

  • Performing an exam/evaluation of their dog.
  • In- depth discussions on movement and structure.
  • Sound advice on achieving better fitness and identifying areas of improvement.
  • Critical knowledge areas regarding the importance of warm-up and cool-down sessions.
  • Vital points on the overall and collective care of your sporting athlete.

Day 1 - Friday, June 6th:

       AM Session

  • Gait analysis and forelimb evaluation of first group of dogs (dogs 1-4)
  • Forelimb exercises - one exercise demonstration per dog
  • Discuss warm-up/cool down/conditioning

      PM Session

  • Gait analysis and hindlimb evaluation of second group of dogs (dogs 5-8)  
  • Hindlimb Exercises -  One exercise demonstration per dog
  • Discuss puppy and young dog conditioning 

Day 2 - Sunday, June 7th:

      AM Session

  • Gait Analysis and Forelimb evaluation of first group of dogs (dogs 5-8)
  • Forelimb exercises - one exercise demonstration per dog. 
  • Discuss joint protection nutraceuticals and supplementation

      Lunch Talk - Puppy Segment: Discussion of proper feeding, health screening and clearances, and joint support supplements

      PM Session

  • Gait analysis and hindlimb evaluation of second group of dogs (dogs 1-4)  
  • Hindlimb exercises -  one exercise demonstration per dog
  • Discuss common soft tissue performance injuries and treatments

Following the Clinic on Sunday, June 9th - 7:30am-1:30pm - by appointment only

Dr. Jennell Appel has been involved in the field of canine rehabilitation since 2002, with a special interest in canine athletics. Dr. Appel obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. She attended St. George’s University College of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, graduating in 2008 following one year of clinical rotations at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Appel completed her certification as a Canine Rehabilitation Therapist in 2009 from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute.

Dr. Appel specializes in postoperative rehabilitation, sports medicine, athletic conditioning and injury prevention. She is the Chief Veterinary Consultant for Biko Animal Physiotherapeutics, who pioneered the first and only progressive elastic resistance product available in veterinary medicine. Dr. Appel is passionate about veterinary rehabilitation and sports medicine education and regularly speaks at canine athletic seminars regarding injury prevention and conditioning.

Dr. Appel founded SportVet Canine Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Mobile Clinic in 2013, a unique 28 foot mobile unit capable of treating athletes in the field. SportVet travels throughout the Southeast, attending field trials, hunt tests, lure coursing events and agility trials. The unit contains a VetSystems whirlpool with Bioelectric Therapy, which is a state-of-the-art treatment combining the benefits of hydrotherapy and electrical stimulation for pain management.
